What is a Google Ads budget?

A Google Ads budget is the amount you are ready to spend on a campaign. In the account you set it as a daily budget, and Google spreads your spend across the month. The number you really need to plan is not a random amount. It comes from the leads you want, how much each click costs and how many clicks turn into leads.

That is what a Google Ads budget calculator does. Set the budget too low and the campaign never collects enough clicks to give you the leads you need. Set it too high and you burn money before you know what works. The formula below gives you a budget built from your own numbers instead of guesswork.

Google Ads budget formula

Budget = (Leads Wanted ÷ Conversion Rate) × Avg. CPC

Leads wanted is your goal. Conversion rate is leads divided by clicks, written as a decimal (5% = 0.05). Dividing leads by conversion rate tells you how many clicks you need. Multiplying those clicks by your average CPC gives the money. The Google Ads budget calculator above applies this formula for you.

Worked example (illustrative numbers): 40 leads for a dental clinic

  1. Goal: 40 leads in 30 days.
  2. Your landing page converts 5% of clicks into leads, so you need 40 ÷ 0.05 = 800 clicks.
  3. Your average CPC is ₹20, so 800 × ₹20 = ₹16,000 total budget.
  4. Daily budget = ₹16,000 ÷ 30 = about ₹533 per day, and each lead costs about ₹400.

Proof: 800 clicks at ₹20 cost ₹16,000 and bring 40 leads, so each lead costs ₹400. Add a 20% safety buffer for the learning phase and the plan becomes ₹19,200.

How to use this Google Ads budget calculator

Real Google Ads benchmarks by industry (2026)

These figures come from the LocaliQ / WordStream 2026 Search Advertising Benchmarks, based on 13,000+ search campaigns between April 2025 and March 2026. They are US averages in US dollars, so use them alongside the Google Ads budget calculator to compare industries and to sanity-check your own numbers, not as exact Indian prices. The last column shows what 40 leads would cost at each industry's average cost per lead.

Source: LocaliQ / WordStream 2026 Google Ads benchmarks (wordstream.com/blog/2026-google-ads-benchmarks) and LocaliQ’s real estate search benchmarks. Budget for 40 leads = 40 × average cost per lead. Cost per lead is averaged across campaigns, so it will not exactly equal CPC ÷ conversion rate.

Notice how conversion rate changes the picture. Real estate has the cheapest clicks ($3.22) but the most expensive leads ($102.51), because only 3.70% of clicks convert. That is why a good Google Ads budget calculator starts from conversion rate and not from the CPC alone.

What about India?

Google does not publish official CPC benchmarks for India, and agency estimates disagree a lot. For real estate alone, published Indian estimates range from roughly ₹20–₹80 to ₹80–₹300 per click depending on the city, project and keywords. Check Google Keyword Planner for your own city and keywords, and trust your own account’s numbers over any average.

Daily budget vs monthly budget

Google Ads asks for a daily budget, so divide your total by the number of days. Google can spend up to twice your daily budget on a busy day to catch more clicks, but over a month it will not charge more than your daily budget multiplied by 30.4. A ₹533 daily budget is therefore a monthly ceiling of about ₹16,200, which matches the example above.

Why add a safety buffer to your Google Ads budget?

Every new campaign goes through a learning period where clicks cost more and conversions are patchy. Many advertisers add 20% to 30% on top of the calculated budget so the campaign can finish learning and still reach the leads goal. This is a rule of thumb, not a Google rule. Once the campaign has 100 or more clicks, replace the guessed conversion rate with the real one and run the Google Ads budget calculator again.

Does this work with Smart Bidding?

With strategies such as Target CPA or Maximize Conversions, Google adjusts bids for you, so your average CPC can move up and down. The result is still a useful planning number. Use your account’s average CPC from the last 30 days and the budget you get will be a realistic starting point. If Google is not spending your budget, the targets or keywords are usually too tight.

Common Google Ads budget mistakes

  • Guessing the conversion rate. Ten clicks tell you very little. Wait for around 100 clicks or more.
  • Using a CPC from an old account or a different city. Check Keyword Planner for your own location and keywords.
  • Counting every enquiry as a lead. Use the conversion rate for leads that are actually worth following up.
  • Starting with a tiny budget. If the daily budget is lower than one or two clicks, the campaign cannot collect enough data to learn.
  • Never updating the plan. Re-run the numbers every few weeks with your real data.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my Google Ads budget?

Divide the leads you want by your conversion rate to get the clicks needed, then multiply by your average CPC. For 40 leads at a 5% conversion rate and ₹20 CPC: 40 ÷ 0.05 = 800 clicks, and 800 × ₹20 = ₹16,000.

How much budget do I need for 40 leads?

It depends on your CPC and conversion rate. The simple way is 40 × your cost per lead. If a lead costs ₹400, you need ₹16,000. Put your own numbers in the Google Ads budget calculator above to see yours.

What is a good daily budget for Google Ads in India?

There is no single good number. It depends on your CPC, your conversion rate and how many leads you want. Work backwards from your leads goal, as the calculator does, instead of picking a round figure.

What conversion rate should I use?

Use your own Google Ads data, ideally from 100 clicks or more. For a brand-new account, start from the industry averages in the table above (for example 3.70% for real estate, 10.67% for dental) and update as your own data comes in.

Can I use this Google Ads budget calculator for Meta Ads?

The math works on any platform where you pay per click, because it only needs your leads goal, your cost per click and your click-to-lead rate. Budget controls differ by platform, so check how each one spends.

Is this Google Ads budget calculator free?

Yes. It is free. You create a one-time account with your Google email, and after that you can use the calculator as many times as you like. The numbers you type into the calculator itself are not stored.
